Job Status: These is a full or part time hourly positions( non-exempt).  Some evening and weekend availability a plus. 

Wage: $20 per hour.

Job Summary:

Drives para-transit bus, which provides transportation for the elderly, disabled or indigent populations. 

Specific Responsibilities:

Operates vehicles in a safe and prudent manner: 55%

  • Picks up and delivers riders as per dispatcher instruction;
  • Assists riders when necessary, such as getting onto and off of the bus;
  • Ensures all passengers are properly secured with appropriate restraints;
  • Reports any accident or incident, no matter how minor, to the Galavan Director;
  • Maintains order and control on the bus;
  • Proficiently operates lifts, radios and other special equipment, as well as a variety of vehicles (e.g. vans or buses);

Completes daily inspection and maintenance of the bus: 25%

  • Sweeps, cleans and washes bus to maintain a professional level of appearance;
  • Ensures any deficiencies noted are reported to Program Director;
  • Fuels bus and checks oil;
  • Checks tires, lights, wipers, and general bus condition;
  • Assesses potential problems and consults with supervisor before taking further action

Performs various record keeping duties: 20%

  • Tallies riders;
  • Collects and tallies daily donations;
  • Maintains mileage logs.

Drivers Licenses Required for Performing this Position: 

  • Montana Class C Driver license with passenger endorsement

  • Montana Class C Driver license with passenger endorsement

  • Medical Examiners Certificate
  • Pre-hire and random alcohol/drug testing required

  • Ability to effectively work and communicate with a wide range of individuals from all socio-economic groups

  • Knowledge how to operate an automatic transmission and have basic knowledge of vehicle maintenance

  • The employee must regularly push / pull occupied wheelchairs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, must be able to work under time and/or deadline pressures.

  • Graduation from high school or GED required

  • Prior experience driving a commercial passenger vehicle preferred
